International Air Fares and costs of getting to the start of a trip What sort of accommodations should I expect? It is our policy to use the best available accommodation in any area we visit. In towns at the beginning and end of your trip, the accommodation available consists of 3 to 4 star hotels. Accommodations in the wildlife areas consist of tented camps which are rustic but very comfortable, all having en suite or private bathroom facilities, good food, well-stocked bars, and most with flush toilets and hot and cold running water. Those tented camps in some of the more remote or ecologically-sensitive areas have more basic bathroom facilities, with bush toilets and bush showers. However, even these are comfortable and offer a high standard of service What kind of food can I expect? Food in your town hotel will be varied and you will find on offer a wide choice of local, Western and Oriental cuisine. In the wildlife areas, menus are generally Western with some local fare. Meals are well cooked, and clean water is used for cooking Special and vegetarian diets can usually be accommodated. We recommend that on your tour, you restrict yourself to drinking bottled water, and never tap water, even in the town hotels Your guides are members of a truly remarkable group. Their enthusiasm, expertise, language skills, environmental understanding, cultural knowledge, and safety training are unparalleled. Besides showing you wonders you would never find on your own, they make sure everything runs smoothly and safely. They love to share stories and swap tall tales, and each and every one of them embodies the spirit of adventure and the joy of exploration. Can I request a guide who speaks my language? Certainly. We will do our best to accommodate your request. Usually we are able to provide drivers and guides speaking specific languages if given sufficient, prior notice. Please note that this applies to tailor made itineraries only. How will I travel from one place to the next? We always have a representative to meet you at the airport and assist with check-in procedures at your hotel. We also have a representative who will assist with your check-out at the end of the trip and see you off at the airport. All ground transportation is included in the price of your trip. How do I know if I’m fit enough for a trip? The following chart should serve as a general guide to the degree of difficulty of various activities and the required fitness level for each:
Are there age or health restrictions on any activities? Featured Group Tours are only open to participants aged 15 and above. A family tour may be arranged by request Only travelers over the age of 15 are allowed to track primates. Any traveler found to be suffering from a communicable disease such as a common cold or cough, influenza or diarrhea may be barred by park authorities from tracking gorillas and chimpanzees to avoid passing the infection on to the primates. If you are suffering from such a disease on the day of the track, we recommend that you report this to your Professional Guide, as this may allow him to obtain a refund of your tracking permit for you. What do I need to bring with me? A healthy sense of humor, and your spirit of adventure! Besides this, your personal items, especially those that may be difficult to obtain during your trip. We will send you a comprehensive check list of essentials that you need to bring along. How do I register for my The Far Horizons trip? Simply follow the instructions on our registration form. Payment may be made to us by telegraphic or wire transfer, or over the Internet through paypal.com to which we subscribe. This is a safe, quick way of making payments over the Internet. What are my rooming options if I’m traveling alone? We make every effort to arrange shared accommodations for single travelers when requested to do so. If the request cannot be honored, the quoted single supplement will apply. Can I change my mind and transfer to another trip? You can change from one trip to another if you do this more than 60 days before the start date of your tour. After this, our cancellation policy will apply. Can The Far Horizon guarantee that my trip will run? The Far Horizon reserves the right to cancel any trip if an economically viable number of members do not sign up for a tour. In such an unlikely event, we will inform you at least 60 days prior to departure. You will be given the option to carry on with the tour privately, and bear the extra costs of doing this. If you do not wish to take up this option, the trip will be cancelled, and your deposit will be returned less any non-refundable costs we have incurred in planning the tour. The Far Horizon is not responsible for additional expenses incurred by members preparing for the trip. When will I receive the documentation I need to prepare for my trip? 10 days after confirmation of your reservation you can expect to receive by email your pre-trip information. You may require a visa depending on which country you come from. We have included some visa-related links on our Links page to help you determine if you need one or not.
