Gorilla Tracking
This is surely one of the world's most exclusive and yet most poignant experiences. There are less than 600 mountain gorillas in existence today-about the number of children in one medium-sized school. Their habitat is constantly under threat from human encroachment, and they are now restricted to two small mountain areas, one of them Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and the other the Virunga Conservation Area straddling Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. No mountain gorillas have ever been successfully raised in captivity.
A visit to these enigmatic creatures leaves one with an enduring sense of wonder and privilege. They inhabit areas that are remote, and gorilla tracking can be very strenuous. However a visit to see them is one of life's unique experiences.
Chimpanzee and Primate Tracking
Uganda is a primate haven. The country's various protected areas are host to over ten primate species, including the endangered chimpanzee. The prime chimpanzee tracking areas are the Kibaale Forest, which alone hosts 8 species of primate, The Semiliki Valley Wildlife Reserve, and the Chambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Our tours cover all these areas, and we also offer trips to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a pioneering 100-acre island refuge on Lake Victoria.
Wildlife VIewing
The game in Uganda's parks is gradually recovering from the slaughter of the 1970's, and there are several good parks for game viewing. These include Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Semiliki Valley Wildlife Reserve and Lake Mburo National Park. We organise tours to all these parks, where elephant, lion, buffalo, hippo, hyena, crocodile and plains game are abundant. With luck, a visitor may encounter some of the more elusive animals such as leopard, and numerous smaller animals.
Birding Tours
With over 1000 species recorded, Uganda enjoys one of the highest bird species densities in Africa. We have run two major birding tours every year for the last six years, and fully cater for the special requirements of our birding clients. Our bird guides accompany you throughout your tour, and where possible, we arrange for a guide at each location who is a specialist in that particular location. Our experience in designing and handling
birding tours means that our itineraries represent the best that
the region has to offer.
Launch Trips
On our trips you will have the chance to enjoy a game cruise up the river Nile to the Murchison Falls, dodging hippo and huge Nile crocodile. We also offer game cruises on the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you may catch sight of the animals as they come down to drink at the water's edge in the evenings.
Walking Safaris
There are numerous opportunities in almost all the national parks to get out of your vehicle and experience the African bush in the best possible way-on foot. All our walks are accompanied by trained rangers, and cover a wide variety of habitats, from rain forest, to tropical forest, to savannah plains, and dry scrub. We include this experience on our tours wherever it is available.
Whitewater rafting
Rafting the Source of the Nile is surely one of the more unique pastimes you can indulge in. Rapids of up to grade 5 and experienced guides with track record of rafting around the globe ensure that this will remain a treasured memory long after you have returned home.
